Step 1: Determine Eligibility
Membership in the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution is open to any male citizen of good repute who can prove direct lineal descent from a patriot ancestor who supported the cause of American Independence.
An acceptable patriot ancestor is defined as someone who maintained loyalty to the cause of American Independence and actively served between **April 19, 1775, and November 26, 1783**, in any of the following service profiles:
- Signers of the Declaration of Independence or the U.S. Constitution.
- Military personnel serving in the Continental Army, Continental Navy, or state militia units.
- Civil officers holding town, county, or state government positions under patriot authority.
- Patriots who performed material service, including providing supplies, joining Committees of Safety, or signing Oaths of Allegiance.
- French military forces under Count de Rochambeau or Spanish assets operating under Governor Bernardo de Gálvez who openly assisted the American forces.
